In 2023, the consumption of meat and meat products increased by 2.7%, reaching 2,215 million kg, and a market recovery is confirmed after a negative 2022. This is confirmed by the report presented by Nielsen at the AECOC Congress that was held on February 21 and 22 in Lle\u00edda. This growth has been led by fresh meat, which, during the past year, recorded an increase in demand of 3%.<\/p>\n

Revista C\u00e1rnica <\/strong><\/a>has echoed this report, which develops as follows:<\/p>\n

Chicken, pork and beef represent 75% of the volume of fresh meat invoiced and, except for canned meat, all families of meat preparations grew in volume in 2023.<\/p>\n

Also, per capita meat consumption is recovering. Thus, in 2023 this figure has reached 32.4 kg per inhabitant, exceeding 31.9 kg p.p. in 2022 and 32.1 kg in 2021.<\/p>\n

The Congress was inaugurated by the general director of the Food Industry, Jos\u00e9 Miguel Herrero<\/strong>, who encouraged the sector to “communicate the positive things about this sector, a sector that generates wealth, that generates employment and that gives cohesion to rural areas.”<\/p>\n

In other debates, AECOC has also presented the The Sense of Meat campaign, supported by companies, associations and interprofessionals that focuses on information supported by scientific data. The person in charge, Jos\u00e9 Manuel \u00c1lvarez, Livestock-Meat Forum Coordinator, commented during the presentation: “We need to value the excellence of this chain because we are feeding the population.”<\/p>\n
