These cases are already being managed by the Catalan Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, following established protocols.

ANAFRIC would like to send a message of reassurance.
ASF affects only pigs and wild boars and poses no risk to human health or food safety. It cannot be transmitted to people or to other animal species.

As required by law, authorities have established a 20-kilometre surveillance zone, where several farms will operate under temporary restrictions. It also demonstrates strong coordination between administrations and the sector, which have quickly activated the relevant measures.

In Spain, pig farms follow strict biosecurity protocols, regulated by comprehensive legislation that details all requirements needed to ensure high sanitary standards and safe food production.

INTERPORC notes that controls have been strengthened in recent years due to the spread of ASF in nearby EU countries, which has enabled a fast and efficient detection. The professionalism of farmers and veterinarians, together with Spain’s rigorous sanitary model, remains the strongest guarantee for both the sector and consumers.

ANAFRIC will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in contact with authorities and interprofessional organisations to provide updated and accurate information. Contact with www.interporc.com

After detection of wild boars that tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) in the municipality of Bellaterra (Barcelona).
