The event brought together more than 60 participants, mainly students of Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering and Food Science and Technology, as well as master’s and doctoral programmes.

The session was moderated by Almudena Campoy, coordinator of the Vet+i Foundation, who highlighted the role of Campus Provacuno as a meeting point between the academic world and the beef sector. The opening of the conference was led by Arancha Martínez, Communication Director at Provacuno, who encouraged students to join the campus to stay informed about developments in the sector.

The main presentation was delivered by Juan Pascual, veterinarian, science communicator and Vice-President of AnimalhealthEurope, who addressed the role of beef cattle from a scientific and technical perspective, focusing on sustainability, nutrition and human health.

During the presentation, the contribution of beef cattle farming to the circular economy was highlighted, noting that around 95% of cattle feed comes from resources not suitable for human consumption, such as agricultural and industrial by-products, thereby helping to reduce food waste.

The role of cattle in land management was also emphasised, particularly in extensive farming systems, where grazing contributes to wildfire prevention, landscape maintenance and the natural carbon cycle. In this context, it was recalled that two thirds of the world’s arable land is not suitable for crops intended directly for human consumption, but is suitable for grazing.

Regarding environmental sustainability, the analysis of livestock-related emissions was addressed, underlining that emissions vary depending on geography and production systems. Comparative data on emissions and nutritional contribution were presented, together with references to studies providing a more comprehensive and contextualised view of the environmental impact of beef production.

The conference also addressed issues related to nutrition, social perception and communication about meat consumption, stressing the importance of conveying accurate, science-based information to society.

The session concluded with a Q&A and debate on topics such as artificial meat, international trade, European regulations on food safety and animal welfare, and the main future challenges facing the sector.

More information: www.provacuno.es/campus-provacuno

Campus Provacuno has held a new training session aimed at university students, focusing on the importance of beef cattle farming […]

[1097,1096,1111
1100,3526
post-23690","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-anafric-en","category-sector-en","category-vacuno-en","tag-anafric-en","tag-campus-provacuno
["GET
