Alimentaria FoodTech 2026 opened its doors on Tuesday, 6 October, at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, turning the Catalan capital into a meeting point for innovation and technology applied to the food industry for three days.<\/p>\n

\"Alimentaria<\/p>\n

The event, in which ANAFRIC participates as a collaborating organisation<\/strong>, brings together more than 330 exhibiting companies from 22 countries<\/strong>, 26% of them international, and occupies nearly 15,000 m\u00b2. More than 140 experts will also take part in around 60 sessions addressing the trends shaping the future of the industry.<\/p>\n

Innovations showcased at this year’s edition include cold high-pressure technologies to extend food shelf life, artificial intelligence vision systems for production lines, sensors designed to reduce water consumption, new ingredients, high nutrient-density foods and solutions aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of industrial processes.<\/p>\n

The official opening features the participation of the Catalan Minister for Business and Labour, Miquel S\u00e0mper<\/strong>, and the Spanish Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Bego\u00f1a Garc\u00eda Bernal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

FoodTech Awards recognise innovation in the sector<\/h2>\n

Coinciding with the opening of the event, Alimentaria FoodTech has announced the winners of the FoodTech Awards 2026<\/strong>, which recognise business projects, startups and scientific careers contributing to the transformation and competitiveness of the food industry.<\/p>\n

The FoodTech Emprende Awards<\/strong> have recognised Novameat, Ingredalia, Darwin and IOVI<\/strong> for their proposals related to new ingredients, by-product valorisation, alternative proteins, sustainability and digitalisation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the FoodTech Awards Innova<\/strong> have recognised FPS, Disproquima, Collo and BrainR<\/strong> for developing technological solutions applicable to production, processing and industrial management.<\/p>\n

As a new feature this year, Alimentaria FoodTech has introduced the FoodTech Awards for Scientific Merit<\/strong>. Buenaventura Guamis<\/strong>, Professor of Food Technology at the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB), has received the career achievement award, while Francisco Mart\u00ednez Mojica<\/strong>, microbiologist and professor at the University of Alicante, internationally recognised for his research into CRISPR genetic sequences, has received the scientific project award.<\/p>\n

Until 8 October<\/strong>, Alimentaria FoodTech will showcase the latest developments in machinery, processes, ingredients and technological solutions for the food and beverage industry, with particular emphasis on automation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, efficiency and sustainability.<\/p>\n
