ANAFRIC, as a member of PIMEC, participated in the Board of Directors meeting attended by the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. During the meeting, the meat industry association presented the main concerns and proposals of a sector considered strategic for the Spanish economy, social cohesion, and territorial development to the opposition leader.
ANAFRIC shared the following priority points with Núñez Feijóo:
- Recognition of the sector: its economic, social, and territorial relevance.
- Structural problems: excessive paperwork, rising regulatory costs, tax pressure poorly adapted to SMEs, legislative requirements, and inequality compared to third countries.
- Competitiveness: the need for fair prices, control against dumping, tariff revision, and uniform health requirements.
- Taxation and generational renewal: tax incentives for meat SMEs to ensure the future in rural areas.
- Sustainability: balance between environmental policies and defending the sector against negative image campaigns.
- Working conditions: impact of a possible mandatory reduction in working hours in a labor-intensive sector.
- Specific request: holding a dedicated meeting with the president of the People’s Party (PP) and his team to delve deeper into the sector’s proposals.
ANAFRIC highly values the opportunity to participate in this top-level forum and reiterates its willingness to collaborate with institutions and all political groups to ensure a sustainable, competitive, and innovative future for the Spanish meat sector.
