ANAFRIC supports extensive livestock farmers affected by the fires and demands urgent aid

ANAFRIC wishes to express its utmost solidarity with the extensive livestock farmers who lost their pastures, facilities, and animals this August as a result of the devastating fires in Galicia, Castilla y León, and Extremadura. ANAFRIC requests urgent and effective measures from the autonomous communities and the Government of Spain to guarantee direct financial support and the immediate distribution of fodder and feed to affected livestock farmers.

Impact on extensive livestock farming

The fires have left thousands of livestock farmers without natural resources to feed their livestock. The situation is especially critical because the fodder and straw stored for the winter are already being consumed in the middle of summer, which heralds months of serious difficulties for extensive farms.

Extensive livestock farming is key to fire prevention, as it keeps the land clean and creates an essential balance in ecosystems.

ANAFRIC Appeal

“At ANAFRIC, we express our full support and solidarity with the affected extensive livestock farmers. For this reason, José Friguls, president of the association, demands that “the regional governments and the Spanish Government act urgently, implementing direct and effective aid.”

Extensive livestock farming is lifeblood for rural areas, Friguls continues: “It strengthens our towns, fuels our economy, and contributes to the conservation and improvement of valuable ecosystems, contributing to the prevention of forest fires by keeping mountains and pastures clean.”
