ANAFRIC held a webinar for its member companies to delve deeper into the implementation of the European Regulation (EUDR) on combating deforestation, with a particular focus on case studies from the livestock sector.
The meeting, which included the participation of Marta Angoloti, Head of the Timber Area of the Subdirectorate General for Forest Policy and Combating Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, and her team, provided a firsthand explanation of the marketing conditions and due diligence obligations applicable to the different links in the chain and addressed key aspects such as declaration, transmission, and control, along with the presentation of case studies from the sector.
The session highlighted the complexity and high bureaucratic burden involved in implementing the system required by the EUDR, especially for slaughterhouses, cutting plants, and processing plants. These operators must complete a significant amount of work to demonstrate that the product produced is free of deforestation, considering that the European Union as a whole is considered a low-risk area.
With initiatives like this, ANAFRIC continues to support our member companies in understanding and adapting to European regulations, and we aim to continue working with them to analyze and propose improvements that help facilitate regulatory compliance without adding excessive burdens.
