The Union of Asturian Farmers (UCA) has asked the Principality to set up a mobile slaughterhouse in the region to avoid farmers having to transport cattle to the place where they are slaughtered, reducing and rationalising costs that, in some cases, can reach 40% of the sale price of the cattle.
The union organisation points out that, at present, producers in the Principality must take care of transporting their animals to some of the slaughterhouses in the region, all of them located in the central area or, to a lesser extent, in the central-western area.
Other autonomous communities, such as Galicia and Catalonia, have already implemented a service of this type, the agricultural union stresses, which proposes a mobile slaughterhouse for Asturias consisting of one or more vehicles that make regular routes through the municipalities that do not have their own slaughterhouse, which are equipped with everything necessary to provide service to livestock farmers who wish to sell their products directly to local butchers, private clients or restaurants.
