Beef production in Spain grew by 15% in 2024, reaching a total of €4.641 billion, according to data analyzed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food and leading industry representatives.
This increase in production value is due to both an increase in volume (0.6% compared to 2023) and prices. The beef sector represents 17% of livestock production in Spain. The meeting, chaired by Elena Busutil, Director General of Agricultural Production and Markets, also noted a 7% increase in the value of exports, reaching €1.65 billion.
Among the data analyzed, the downward trend in the national cattle population (-2% in 2024) is also notable. This trend is also occurring among large EU producers and has led to a 2.3% reduction in the EU cattle herd. This decline is particularly significant in some of the most important categories, such as suckler cows and calves, and is primarily responsible for the current market situation in the sector, characterized by high prices.
Prices for key products, as well as for live animals, continue the upward trend of the last two years, which is expected to continue in a scenario marked by uncertainty, amid a difficult geopolitical and climatic context.
