The Government has approved allocating €4 million from the 2025 contingency fund for the vaccination campaign against lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle.
€4 million allocated
The measure is being implemented urgently, following the confirmation of the first case on a cattle farm in Alt Empordà and a second in the Girona region. The aim is to prevent the spread of the disease.
In accordance with European regulations, LSD is classified as a category A disease, which means it must be eradicated immediately. It is an easily transmitted disease that can have serious economic consequences for farms, especially in the dairy cattle sector, where it can cause significant declines in production.
No risk to humans
Lumpy skin disease poses no risk to human health. The virus only affects cattle, and there is no risk of transmission from the consumption of meat or milk.
