The Sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the distribution of €7.4 million among the Autonomous Communities for animal disease eradication programs. This line of support aims to implement programs that allow for the control and subsequent eradication of certain important diseases due to their implications for animal health and the repercussions they can have on both public health and the export of Spanish livestock products.

The majority of the funds (€7,194,083.52) will be allocated to the national bovine tuberculosis control and eradication program, to compensate for the lack of EU co-financing. The remaining amount (€205,916.48) is being granted to Aragon and the Balearic Islands to support the acquisition of vaccines against the new bluetongue serotypes detected during 2024.
Minister Luis Planas, who chaired this meeting, also chaired the Advisory Councils on Agricultural and Fisheries Policy for Community Affairs, where he reported on the matters of next week’s Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the European Union (EU), which will be attended as a guest by the Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine, Mikola Soslki.
Regarding the debate on the environmental architecture of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), introduced by the Danish presidency, he assured that Spain maintains its position and supports its continuation as an “indispensable tool for European food security,” without losing sight of aspects such as climate change, the protection of natural resources, and generational renewal.
