EU policies endanger food independence, according to 50% of Europeans

Almost half of those surveyed in an exclusive Ipsos poll for  ‘Euronews’  consider that EU measures have a negative impact on the protection of European agriculture and the bloc’s food independence. European voters are unhappy with the protection the bloc offers to agriculture, which accounts for the largest share of the EU budget.

Both aspects take center stage in the EU’s agricultural subsidy programme, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which is also one of the bloc’s largest financial endowments.

The survey result can be considered a substantial failure of the EU’s main agricultural policy, as European policymakers do not take advantage of funds specifically allocated to agriculture, which represents a third of the total EU budget.
