FIAB Launches the “Alimencionario,” an Online Dictionary to Combat Food Misinformation

The Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB) has launched the “Alimencionario,” a digital dictionary that seeks to provide consumers with clear and accurate information on terms related to food, nutrition, and their processes.

The project was launched on World Social Media Day and aims to be a reference tool for citizens, helping to combat misinformation and hoaxes surrounding food.

The “Alimencionario” offers complete definitions of key concepts, drawn from authoritative and scientific sources such as the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), various food regulations, the Bender Dictionary of Nutrition and Food Technology, and the Encyclopedia of Health Sciences and Nutrition, among others.

Furthermore, it is intended as a living document, which will be updated and expanded with new terms and concepts. All definitions will be available on the FIAB website and will also be disseminated through its social media channels.

“At FIAB, we work to ensure that consumers have access to responsible and useful information about the food industry, and with that commitment, we have created the Alimentario,” emphasizes Mauricio García de Quevedo, FIAB’s general director.

With this initiative, FIAB strengthens its role as a key player in disseminating accurate information about the food sector and contributes to improving consumers’ knowledge about what they eat and drink.
