The Gallic country has published a decree in its Official Gazette that establishes a series of regulations regarding the use of denominations that designate products of animal origin and the food products derived from them. Thus, from the entry into force of this new decree, in France it will not be possible to use the terminology of the sectors traditionally associated with meat and fish to designate products that do not belong to the animal kingdom since, in essence, it indicates , are not comparable.
Revista Cárnica and Eurocarne have echoed the news, which indicates that the application of article L412-10 of the Consumer Code resulting from the law of June 10, 2020 on the transparency of information on agricultural products has become effective and food. This law aims to prohibit the use of names used to designate food products of animal origin (steak, fillet, sausage…) to describe, market or promote food products containing vegetable proteins.
The rule states that food products manufactured or labeled before October 1, 2022 and that comply with the regulations in force on that date may be marketed while stocks last, and at the latest until December 31, 2023.
The National Interprofessional Association of Livestock and Meat of France (INTERBEV) has shown its satisfaction with the publication of the decree and, in addition, the association has made it effective that this decree “should be extended to a European level”, also includes Eurocarne.
