Iberdrola and Anafric sign an agreement to promote electrification and decarbonisation

• With this agreement, both organisations will work together to promote the efficient management of the energy used by the association partners and boost their competitiveness.

• The collaboration will include, in addition to the supply of electricity, support in the electrification of thermal processes with heat pumps, installation of photovoltaics for self-consumption, electric mobility projects or the purchase of energy saving certificates (CAEs).

Iberdrola and ANAFRIC, the National Association of Cold Storage Warehouses for Meat and Cutting Rooms, have signed a collaboration agreement to promote the electrification and decarbonisation of the associated companies by facilitating Iberdrola’s experience throughout the value chain, and seeking synergies that allow the energy optimisation of the main energy-consuming processes of the associates.

The agreement, which was signed at Anafric’s headquarters in Barcelona by its president, José Friguls, and by the Commercial Delegate of Iberdrola in Catalonia, Juan Miguel Bailón, will allow the association to make available the wide variety of comprehensive solutions that the company has available to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions.

For Juan Miguel Bailón, “this agreement with ANAFRIC is another part of Iberdrola’s commitment to lead the energy transition, improving the competitiveness of our customers, a challenge that we undertook 20 years ago and that has made us a world leader in renewable energies. We are committed to the electrification of the economy, the promotion of green energies and technological innovation to guarantee a more sustainable future.”

For his part, José Friguls has highlighted this agreement because it represents a decisive step towards advancing the sustainability of the meat sector. “At ANAFRIC we are fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities, and this collaboration will allow us to provide our associated companies with innovative and efficient solutions that not only optimize energy consumption, but also strengthen our competitiveness.”

For the president of ANAFRIC, “electrification and decarbonization are fundamental pillars to face the challenges of climate change, and from our association we want to lead this process with initiatives that benefit both the sector and society as a whole. We thank Iberdrola for its support and experience, which will undoubtedly be key to driving this change and strengthening the sector’s commitment to a more sustainable and responsible future.”

The decarbonisation of the industry through electrification is essential to address climate change, use energy more efficiently and encourage innovation, improving customers’ financial balance sheets.

In addition, electrification allows for more efficient use of energy while enabling the implementation of more advanced control and monitoring technologies, resulting in more precise and efficient management of industrial processes.

Technical and economic efficiency

With this agreement, both entities will collaborate to seek maximum efficiency in the electricity supply, both technically and economically, addressing the different existing modalities that best adapt to each industry. To this end, the possibility of carrying out energy audits has been made available to partners, as well as all of Iberdrola’s technical knowledge for the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption projects, individually or collectively, and also on those related to the decarbonisation of industrial heating and cooling processes.

In the field of electric mobility, Iberdrola makes available to ANAFRIC members the wide range of possibilities, which ranges from the installation of charging points for both public and private use, as well as the electrification of heavy transport, an area in which the company leads pioneering projects already in operation.

Energy Saving Certificates (CAE)

Other aspects of the agreement to be highlighted are the Energy Saving Certificates (CAE), in which Iberdrola makes a direct payment to members for the energy savings generated, which serves to promote the return on investments. In addition, Iberdrola has its own Technical Office that is available to members to evaluate energy savings and carry out all the necessary procedures. Thus, for an aerothermal system, a client can benefit from a direct reduction of up to 20% on the initial investment, in addition to benefiting from the resulting energy savings

And for those companies that require it, Iberdrola provides the necessary information on the possibility of having green hydrogen projects, an area in which the company has already had facilities in operation for years, such as the one launched together with Fertiberia in Puertollano or the hydrogen station in the Zona Franca de Barcelona, which serves TMB buses. The energy transition and independence from fossil fuels is today a priority in our society and the business fabric has a fundamental role in the coming years to meet the ambitious objectives committed to, both at national, European and international level.
