On October 27th, INTEROVIC will celebrate its 25th anniversary, a momentous occasion for the entire sheep and goat meat chain: producers, processors, marketers, and consumers. Since its founding, the Interprofessional Agri-Food Association of Sheep and Goat Meat has pursued goals of sustainability, innovation, quality, and communication that today form the backbone of the sector.
To commemorate this quarter of a century of collective work, shared values, and sector growth, INTEROVIC has organized a very special event:
- When: October 27th
- Where: Pastoreo temporary space, Calle Sandoval No. 3, Madrid — a setting that symbolizes the intersection of rural tradition, culture, innovation, and sustainability.
It will be a morning of meeting, reflection, and celebration, with the presence of industry members, authorities, collaborators, and all those who have contributed to the development of the sheep and goat meat sector in Spain.
What is INTEROVIC and how has it evolved?
INTEROVIC is the Interprofessional Organization officially recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Environment. It represents all links in the chain: producers, industry, marketers, and tanners in the sheep and goat sector.
Since September 2012, it has operated under the Standard Extension regulated by Order AAA/1934/2012, which provides it with official coverage to promote research, innovation, and product promotion throughout the sector.
Over the years, this standard has been renewed several times (second Standard Extension in 2015, third in 2020) to ensure the continuity of innovation programs, promotional campaigns, quality improvement, and market surveillance.
Highlights in these 25 years
BAIE Certification (Interovic Animal Welfare Spain): a seal of approval to ensure and communicate to consumers good animal welfare practices, from the farm to distribution.
Sustainable and innovative promotional campaigns:
- The multi-country campaign (Spain-Hungary, 2018-2020) focused on sustainability, origin, new cuts, deseasonalization of consumption, and sector visibility.
- Actions to modernize the image of sheep and goats, adapting to current tastes (easy formats, new cuts) and improving communication (digital marketing, social media, content for young audiences).
Strengthening the social and environmental role:
- Through the value of grazing to conserve natural spaces, prevent fires, maintain biodiversity, and generate activity in rural areas.
- Experiences like Pastoreo, a temporary cultural and culinary space in Madrid to bring urban audiences closer to the countryside, tradition, products, and national origins.
Research, development, and technological innovation:
- INTEROVIC promotes R&D+i programs for new processes, best practices, and product adaptation to current consumer demands.
- Training, loyalty, improved cuts, format adaptation, and new communication methods.
