INTERPORC is participating in the EU Agri-Food Business Mission to Japan (June 8-13 in Tokyo and Osaka). This is a high-level trade mission of the European Commission led by the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen.
INTERPORC is participating in a prominent delegation of companies and associations from the European agri-food sector whose objective is to boost trade between the EU and Japan within the framework of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two regions.
In this context, the Interprofessional represents the Spanish pork sector, which already has a significant presence in the demanding Japanese market, but aspires to open up new business opportunities. To achieve this, the trip’s agenda includes B2B meetings; institutional events; a promotional day at Expo 2025 Osaka, where the European pavilion will be a leading global showcase for EU agri-food products; and a working meeting with Commissioner Hansen.
Japan, a key market for Spanish pork exports
INTERPORC highlights the strategic nature of the Japanese market, which particularly values quality, food safety, and sustainability, all of which are guaranteed by the Spanish production model.
Thanks to this, and to promotional campaigns such as the one currently being developed with ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the country is now one of the main destinations for Spanish pork.
In 2024, it was the fourth largest market by volume—the second outside the EU—with 191,853 tons (7.04% of the national total), and also the fourth largest by value, with €787.22 million (8.96% of the national total). Compared to 2023, exports grew by 15,340 tons (+8.69%) and €140.11 million (+21.65%). A positive development that demonstrates the opportunity of this trip given the growing Japanese demand for Spanish pork products, especially those with high added value.
