INTERPORC and the Government of Aragon are organizing the Aragón Pork Forum on July 8th. This event will make Zaragoza the epicenter of debate on the present and future of one of the most important sectors for the Aragonese economy and rural environment. Under the slogan “Transforming the Present to Lead the Future,” the forum will bring together institutional representatives, professional associations, leading companies, scientific experts, and young entrepreneurs to discuss the major challenges facing the Spanish pork industry: global competitiveness, pork quality and safety, sustainability, and generational change.
The forum, which will be hosted by journalist and television presenter Roberto Brasero, will be held at the Reina Petronila Hotel in Zaragoza. The event will be inaugurated by the President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, and will feature the participation of the General Director of INTERPORC, Alberto Herranz, who will offer an in-depth analysis of the sector’s situation in 2024, amidst a context of transformation and uncertainty. He will also outline some key points for facing the immediate future.
Afterwards, Lorenzo Mazzuchelli, from the consulting firm KANTAR, will present the latest data and trends in pork and processed meat consumption, both inside and outside the home, highlighting the role that organized catering and young people can play.
High-Level Speakers
Following these two presentations, four roundtable discussions will be held. The first will discuss the strategic role of pork in Aragon as a driver of rural growth, commitment to sustainability, and international projection. Participating will be Javier Rincón, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food of Aragon; Miguel Ángel Higuera (Anprogapor), Manuel Esteve (Agri-Food Cooperatives), and Giuseppe Aloisio (Anice), moderated by Daniel de Miguel, Deputy Director and International Director of INTERPORC.
The second panel will debunk stereotypes and misconceptions about pork from a scientific perspective. Participating will be María Pérez of the Scientific Committee of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation; biotechnology professor José Miguel Mulet; the general director of FACYRE, Diego Olmedilla; and athlete and livestock farmer Daniel Mateo, all accompanied by Lourdes Zuriaga, president of the Association of Agri-Food Journalists of Spain.
Afternoon Session
After a cocktail reception and ham tasting, the afternoon session will begin with a panel discussing competitiveness in a global market. Representatives from some of the sector’s leading companies will participate: Jorge Costa (Piensos Costa), Sergio Samper (Grupo Jorge), Albert Morera (Grupo Vall Companys), and Pedro Rodrigo (Deloitte España). Moderated by Mikel Iturbe, editor of Heraldo de Aragón, the panel will discuss three key figures in the sector’s generational change: Laura Matas, Guillermo Ramón, and Eva Lizama. Moderated by agri-food journalist Elisa Plumed, the panel will discuss this crucial process for the sector’s future.
Finally, the closing session will be led by INTERPORC President Manuel García.
