The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) has opened a prior public consultation on the draft ministerial order that would extend the agreement of the Interprofessional Beef Organization (PROVACUNO) to the entire sector for the 2026-2030 period.
This extension would require all operators to contribute financially to promotion, communication, sector image, coordination, and support activities, both nationally and internationally, for five years.
Why is this extension being proposed?
PROVACUNO has submitted this proposal to continue the actions undertaken in previous campaigns and address key challenges facing the sector, such as:
- Pressure from social movements critical of livestock farming.
- Lack of knowledge about how the beef sector actually works.
- Structural problems such as generational turnover or labor shortages.
- The need for more effective sector coordination.
- Adaptation to new regulatory frameworks.
Objectives of the proposed standard extension
- Among the main objectives of the new 2026-2030 period are:
- Promoting beef consumption in national and international markets.
- Defending the sector’s image and reputation.
- Informing society about the reality of production and processing.
- Promoting the viability and continuity of all links in the value chain.
- Strengthening the sector’s unity and coordination, including cooperation with other livestock chains.
How would this extension be implemented?
The legal mechanism for extending standards is provided for by both national and European legislation and allows the entire value chain, regardless of its membership in the inter-branch organization, to contribute proportionally to common actions, with guarantees of transparency and oversight.
Furthermore, this model does not require public funding, as it is based on self-financing from the sector itself.
How to participate?
The full text of the proposal can be found on the MAPA website. Contributions or suggestions can be sent to dgia@mapa.es.
🗓 The consultation process will be open until April 9, 2025.
