Meat consumption in Spanish households will grow by 5% in the first quarter of 2025

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Food Consumption Panel, reported by the industry press, per capita consumption of meat and meat products in Spanish households reached 11 kg in the first quarter of 2025, a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

Of the total, 8.11 kg corresponded to fresh meat, representing a 5.4% increase. The increase in chicken meat consumption (+7.7%), reaching almost 3.4 kg/person, and pork meat (+8.5%), reaching 2.53 kg/person, are notable. A slight increase in beef consumption (+2.9%), reaching 1.04 kg/person, is also observed.

On the other hand, sheep and goat meat consumption experienced a 21.8% decrease, reaching 0.14 kg/person, largely due to the different date of Easter celebrations in 2024. Rabbit meat also registered a 6.8% drop, with the same per capita consumption (0.14 kg/person).

Frozen meat consumption remained stable at 0.3 kg/person, while offal increased by 9.4%.

Regarding meat products, there was a 3.1% increase, reaching 2.57 kg/person. In the case of cured ham, the 27.3% drop in consumption of whole pieces stands out, while the consumption of sliced ​​ham increased by 13.6%. By type of ham, white pork ham remained stable, while Iberian ham showed an increase in demand.

Among the derivatives, cold cuts were the most consumed, with 0.54 kg/person and a growth of 4.5% compared to 2024.
