Spain recorded a “historic maximum” in food and beverage exports in 2023, which drove an annual increase of 14.5% in the positive agri-food trade balance, according to the 2023 trade balance report, published by the Secretary of State for Commerce and which EfeAgro has echoed. The food, beverage and tobacco sector was the second most important sector in Spanish exports (with 17.6% of the total), only surpassed by capital goods.
Foreign sales of meat products occupy second place, with a total of 12,192.6 million and an increase of 6.4%, while imports reached 3,385.6 million and rose 13.7%. Fruits and vegetables occupy first place with more than 22,000 million euros.
