The report “Organic Production and Consumption” was presented at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food. It highlights that Spaniards consume more than €3 billion in organic food and cultivate more than 3 million hectares of land.
The data, from the company ECOVALIA, show, compared to the previous year, an upward trend in both the production and consumption of organic products in Spain. This means that these foods and beverages are in growing demand within a difficult economic environment.
Organic livestock farming, especially cattle, has also experienced significant growth in 2023, with an increase of 18%. In Spain, livestock management and native breeds adapt favorably to the organic production system, and this is encouraging farmers to invest in this production model.
In terms of consumption, Spaniards have consumed 10% more organic products than in 2023. Per capita spending increased to €66 per person, almost 3% more, although growth remains slow and insufficient. Given these data, the sector hopes to work with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAPA) to provide it with an organic production development plan that will reverse this situation within the framework of the National Food Strategy.
