Provacuno’s European campaign “For a sustainable Europe, the special mission of cattle” present at Salamaq25

Provacuno is one of the main protagonists of Salamaq25, the agricultural sector fair and a major meeting point for livestock farmers from all over Spain, held at the Salamanca Fairgrounds from September 4 to 8. This year, Provacuno, among its activities, is taking advantage of its presence to provide information about the new campaign “For a sustainable Europe, the special mission of cattle.” Co-financed by the European Union and led by Provacuno (Spain) and Apaq-W (Belgium), this promotional plan aims to raise awareness of the sustainability of the European beef sector, with a special focus on how to contribute to reducing emissions and preventing soil degradation and improving the quality of life.

Salamaq25, which this year brings together more than 500 exhibitors and over 1,000 heads of cattle and is one of the most important livestock events in the country, becomes the perfect setting for Provacuno to showcase to the sector the objectives of this program on the sustainability of European beef cattle and how to achieve them over the next three years.

A stand that emphasizes the importance of more sustainable beef cattle

Over the next few days, from stand 147, Provacuno will explain to all attendees the content of the campaign, as well as the various tools available to help the sector implement measures to ensure emissions reduction and the prevention of soil degradation and improvement in their daily work. In addition, staff will be at the stand to provide information about the program and will distribute various merchandising products to the attending professional audience, such as informational flyers, eco-friendly tote bags, and caps.

In the words of Javier López, director of Provacuno: “Salamaq25 is the perfect event for us to showcase to the entire sector the progress and the drive we want to give to sustainability throughout the European beef value chain, as well as to reinforce the sector’s firm commitment to sustainability in all its forms: economic, social, and environmental.” For López, the beef sector “must be a driver of change, a driving force for continuous improvement, an inherent commitment, and an opportunity to achieve the greatest effectiveness in reducing emissions and preventing soil degradation and improving it.”

With regard to society, the campaign aims to increase awareness of the European beef production model, particularly regarding its economic, social, and environmental sustainability. It also seeks to raise awareness about the crucial role we citizens play in helping Europe achieve its 2050 Carbon Neutrality Target.

Objectives to promote sustainable production measures

The Sustainable European Beef (SEUB) program, within which this campaign is part, will run from this year until 2027 with co-financing from the European Union and the participation of Provacuno (Spain) and Apaq-W (Belgium). It includes a series of specific actions aimed at both citizens and beef producers.

With regard to society, the campaign aims to increase awareness of the European beef production model, particularly regarding its economic, social, and environmental sustainability. It also seeks to raise awareness about the crucial role we citizens play in helping Europe achieve its 2050 Carbon Neutrality Target.

Furthermore, the program aims to support the European beef sector—particularly the Spanish and Belgian sectors—in its process of adaptation and continuous improvement in sustainability by facilitating access to technical information, specific training, and knowledge-sharing opportunities. The main objective is to promote the implementation of good sustainable practices, both in the industry and on farms, and in particular, those that guarantee a reduction in emissions and the prevention of soil degradation and restoration.

Furthermore, as part of the program’s activities, the First Symposium on the Sustainability of European Beef Cattle will be held in Brussels on November 12th. The event will be free and can be attended in a mixed format, both in person and online, upon registration through the website vacunosostenible.eu. This is a very important meeting for the sector, which will bring together important figures and institutions to discuss the present and future of European beef cattle in relation to sustainability in its three general dimensions: economic, social and environmental, and in relation to the reduction of emissions and the prevention of soil degradation and improvement, in particular. The event will also discuss various European initiatives and collective strategies that demonstrate the beef sector’s commitment to sustainability.

All these initiatives from the “For a Sustainable Europe, the Special Mission of Beef” campaign can be seen firsthand at the Provacuno stand at Salamaq25 until September 8, when the major industry event closes.
