The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather opinions on future EU legislation on farm animal welfare, open until July 16, 2025. This initiative seeks to update and harmonize current standards, addressing growing social demands and ethical challenges related to animal breeding and management, such as the phasing out of cages and improving housing conditions.
The main objectives include:
- Ensuring a high level of animal welfare throughout the EU.
- Guaranteeing fair conditions for European producers and strengthening consumer confidence.
- Establishing equivalent standards for imported products.
Who can participate?
Any interested individual or entity can submit comments: farmers, food companies, livestock associations, consumer organizations, NGOs dedicated to animal welfare, and the general public.
How can I participate?
The consultation is open online until July 16 (midnight, Brussels time). Comments are being collected through the official European Commission website.
Will comments be taken into account?
Yes. All contributions received will be considered in the development and refinement of the final proposal and will be published to ensure the transparency of the process.
