According to MAPA data published by Eurocarne, Spanish meat production reached 4.03 million tons in the first half of 2024, representing a 5.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
This increase accelerates the positive trend of the last year (+1.4% between 2023 and 2024), overcoming the -3.2% decline recorded between 2022 and 2023. The growth is mainly due to pork and poultry.
Production by Meat Type
🐖 Pork
- 2.68 million tons, 66.7% of the total.
- Growth of 7.3% compared to 2023.
- About 28 million animals were slaughtered.
- Catalonia leads the way with almost 1.05 million tons (+3.1%).
- Notable growth: Aragón (+14.1%), Murcia (+21%), and Extremadura (+28%), the latter driven by Iberian slaughter.
🐔 Poultry
- 927,852 tons (+5.8%).
- In five years, the sector has grown from 800,000 tons to almost 930,000 tons, driven by domestic consumption due to its more affordable price.
- Data by regional government cannot be broken down with current figures.
🐄 Beef
- 345,437 tons (-3.7%).
- Decreases in almost all regions except Catalonia (+4.2%, to 72,715 tons).
- Notable declines: Galicia (-8.5%), Valencian Community (-5.5%), Castile and León (-1.7%).
🐑 Sheep meat
- 48,954 tons, below 50,000 tons.
- In the last five years, it has fallen by 18.6%.
- Between 2024 and 2025, the decline was smaller: -3% compared to -10.7% the previous year.
- In June, a 16.4% drop was recorded compared to the same month in 2024.
- Castilla y León leads with 12,144 tons (-14.2%), followed by Catalonia (6,535 tons, stable) and Aragon (+3.2%).
🐐🐇🐎 Other meats
- Goat: 3,614 tons (-16.6%).
- Horse: 3,813 tons (-4%).
- Rabbit: 16,483 t in 2025, with a 31.5% drop in 5 years (24,097 t in 2021).
