Mercolleida has launched the first Price Board for the Animal Fats and Meals sector in the entire Spanish territory. Although some of its references were already included in the cereals sector of the market itself or were also listed on the Barcelona market, this is the first time that a specific market for this sector has been established in Spain.
This new Board has the participation of a representative number of companies located throughout the peninsula and with relevant operations also in foreign trade. In this sense, it is also important to highlight the participation of companies dedicated to biodiesel, an activity that is increasingly gaining importance in this market and that competes with productions destined for animal feed.
The new Price Board, made up of a total of 11 companies, is divided into two blocks. The first corresponds to the Fats and Butters group, formed by 8 leading companies in the market that equally represent both the buyer (Cegeco, Corporació Alimentària Guissona, Piensos Costa and Repsol) and the seller (Bioscor, Gracesa, Proteïnes i Derivats and Valgrasa). The second block is the Animal Protein Flours group and is formed by the buyer (Affinity, Corporació Alimentària Guissona and Cotècnica) and the seller (Bioscor, Gracesa, Proteïnes i Derivats, Saria and Valgrasa). Together, these companies represent a significant part of the sector’s business volume at the state level, an industry that has a high level of operations and a growing weight in the agri-food chain. The market will initially quote animal fats, butters and animal protein meals (mixed, poultry and pork) and will add new related products in the future, such as palm or soybean oil.
The quotes will be referenced to destination Lleida (which is how they were quoted until now) and Ex Works, that is, in the factory exit quote without including transport or other subsequent expenses. The latter will allow for a homogeneous reference for the entire country, since the distortion of transport costs, which varies depending on the distance to destination, is eliminated.
Although Mercolleida has been working for months on the operation and launch of this new market, the first official session of the Price Meeting for the Animal Fats and Meals sector took place this Friday, October 3. Its publication will be carried out through the usual channels that Mercolleida maintains with its users, thus consolidating its role as a reference platform in the formation of agricultural prices in Spain.
