The promotion of food products has become important in a context where competitiveness and sustainability become essential in national and international markets. In this sense, a solid promotion and marketing strategy not only enhances the advantages of high-quality European products, but also allows them to remain competitive in an increasingly globalized environment.
Recently, a possible reduction in the budget allocated to promotion programs has been raised in the European Union. This has generated concerns in different sectors, since these funds are essential for European products and in our specific case, Spanish products, to stand out in the world market.
In fact, from ANAFRIC we have sent a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) to emphasize the importance of maintaining and strengthening these promotion policies.
Among the arguments expressed in the communication, it is highlighted that “promotion and marketing strategies, both nationally and internationally, provide the sector with the necessary tools to maintain its competitiveness and, at the same time, support the transition towards greater sustainability.”
These programs make it possible to explain to consumers and importers the standards and quality of the products we produce. In this context, reducing the promotion budget would be counterproductive to the efforts of operators in the sector, since these programs allow new market opportunities to be opened and can help develop new businesses.
From the perspective of the global market, Spanish products have a strong appeal due to their quality, flavour and compliance with rigorous production standards. However, this must be accompanied by promotional campaigns that allow international consumers to know and appreciate these attributes.
Therefore, it is essential that both the EU and Spain continue to support these initiatives, so that producers can continue to generate economic growth and employment, while contributing to environmental sustainability.
