The Upper House has presented a motion, at the initiative of the Socialist Group, to urge the Government to support the consumption of lamb and kid meat and to promote the tourist aspects of transhumance. The Popular Group also presented an instance so that the suckling pig was included in the promotion of consumption.
The text explains that it is necessary to: “Intensify the promotion of suckling pig, lamb and kid meat, with special emphasis on seasonally adjusted consumption and support for initiatives that are committed to the establishment and marketing of solid tourism products around transhumance and the rearing and consumption of lamb and kid”.
In addition, the motion urges that sheep farming is “the main economic, social and environmental engine” in rural Spain and they are also meats “associated with sustainability, because they contribute to cleaning the land, preventing fires and conserving biodiversity”.
