The entity has presented in Lleida the report ‘The Pulse of the Meat Sector’, in which it maintains that companies “are beginning to recover part of the lost profitability” after years that it has described as very complex, and has defended that the Christmas campaign has been excellent.

According to the report, more than half of the companies have improved their profitability in 2024, while 30% have kept it stable and 7% have registered a decrease in their profits.

The president of the Aecoc meat committee and director of Vall Companys, Josep Solé, has stated that the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur is causing concern among Spanish companies.

In this regard, he has stressed the fear of possible unfair competition, a lack of food safety and differences in product quality.

The companies surveyed have also expressed concern about the new European regulations related to animal welfare, as well as whether the Chinese government decides to apply new tariffs.
