The UECBV Warns of the Impact of Trade Tariffs on the European Agri-Food Sector

The UECBV, an organization representing a large part of the European meat sector, has issued a statement expressing concern about the increasing use of tariff measures in global trade, especially within the framework of relations between the European Union and the United States.

La UECBV alerta sobre el impacto de los aranceles comerciales en el sector agroalimentario europeo

The organization, as explained by Eurocarne, denounces that tariffs imposed on agri-food products, including meat, are harming the European industry and American consumers, generating an economic impact of billions of euros.

The UECBV calls for excluding these products from trade retaliation, recalling that WTO principles recommend that countermeasures remain within the same affected sector. Furthermore, it warns of the risk of retaliatory tariffs from China, which would further affect pork and beef exports.

It also highlights that the agri-food trade balance is favorable to the EU, making any measure limiting these exports counterproductive. The rising cost of raw materials such as soybeans, aggravated by the EUDR requirements, is also highlighted.

The UECBV calls for a negotiated, long-term solution, positively appreciating the dialogue-based approach announced by President von der Leyen, and urges that trade stability for the European livestock sector be prioritized.
