The acting vice-rector for Technology Transfer and Innovation of the University of Zaragoza, Gloria Cuenca Bescós, and the CEO of Grupo Costa, Jorge Costa Cerezuela, have this morning formalized the creation of the COSTA Chair (Circularity and Sustainable Optimization with Advanced Technologies for the primary sector) at an event held at the Sommos Winery, of the Costa business group. The presentation event was also attended by the acting rector of the University of Zaragoza, José Antonio Mayoral, who will serve as director of the chair.
During the presentation ceremony, the Vice-Rector for Technology Transfer and Innovation, Gloria Cuenca Bescós, highlighted that “the chairs allow for the establishment of long-lasting alliances between the University and companies, such as Grupo Costa, to encourage innovation, research and the transfer of knowledge”.
For his part, the CEO of Grupo Costa, Jorge Costa Cerezuela, highlighted that the chair arises “from the Group’s commitment to research, innovation and animal welfare, as well as its commitment to circularity and biotechnology”.
“From Grupo Costa – he continued – we are going to share knowledge with the University, to create synergies that materialize in sustainable developments that continue to raise the name of Aragon in the primary sector”.
The COSTA Chair aims to “promote research, knowledge transfer and training, at all levels, on the use, valorisation and exploitation of by-products from the primary sector, to approach the idea of Circular Economy that helps environmental sustainability”, according to the director of the Chair and acting rector of the University of Zaragoza, José Antonio Mayoral.
Among the activities planned within the scope of the Chair are the definition of priority lines of research within the scope of the circularity of the primary sector, the establishment of a programme of industrial doctorates in topics related to the objectives of the Chair, the promotion of master’s theses, as well as the approach to the needs of continuous training for the development of the proposed lines of research, among other actions.
The joint committee for monitoring the chair is made up of representatives of Grupo Costa, Jorge Costa Cerezuela and Alba García Camprubí, and on behalf of the University of Zaragoza, Dr. José María Fraile Dolado and the Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy, Rosa Bolea.
