Vadefoodies 2025 celebrates traditional cuisine with flavor and tradition

The city of Igualada is preparing to host a new edition of Vadefoodies on June 7th, a gastronomic festival whose ninth edition focuses on two main protagonists of traditional Catalan cuisine: capipota and cod.

With the collaboration of Igualada City Council, this year’s event focuses on two main themes: visceral cooking and salted fish, two pillars that will structure all the festival’s activities.

One of the major new features of this edition will be the final of the 1st Capipota of Catalonia Competition, a recipe born in Barcelona and deeply rooted throughout the region. A total of 22 restaurants will compete for the top prize at a public event held on Igualada’s Rambla.

In addition, 24 establishments in the region will participate in the 2nd Cod Route, a culinary offering that revives the tradition of eating salted fish in the interior of the country. Tapas, menus, and special dishes featuring cod as the star ingredient will be available between May 27 and June 7.

Food lovers can also enjoy a forkful of breakfast to kick off the event on June 7, where the book “Esmorzars de Forquilla” by Albert Molins will be presented. Starting at noon, there will be gastronomic tastings, cod-themed cooking shows, book presentations, and musical performances in collaboration with Vadejazz.

To strengthen awareness and visibility of restaurants that keep the capipota tradition alive, the organization has launched a web search engine that allows users to locate the best establishments specializing in this dish throughout Catalonia. A directory of the cod route participants is also included.

An edition, in short, that unites territory, produce, and gastronomic culture in a festive event, open and designed for all audiences.
