Next Friday, January 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the “We are Livestock” conference will take place at the headquarters of the General Council of Veterinary Colleges of Spain (C/ Villanueva, 11, Madrid), an event that seeks to highlight the role of the livestock sector through scientific rigor and effective communication.
The conference will begin with an institutional opening by Luis Alberto Calvo, President of the CGCVE, and a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). Later, Miguel Ángel Higuera, director of ANPROGAPOR and coordinator of Somos Ganadería, will present the initiative that gives the event its name.
Two round tables: science and communication
The programme includes two round tables with complementary approaches:
- Scientific round table: Under the title “Debunking myths about livestock farming: science at the service of truth”, leading researchers such as J.M. Mulet, Fernando Estellés and Antoni Dalmau will analyse, from a scientific perspective, the main myths affecting the livestock sector. The round table will be moderated by Matilde Moro, manager of ASOPROVAC.
- Informative round table: In the conversation “More communication against misinformation”, experts such as Gemma Tico, a veterinarian specialising in communication, and Elisa Plumed, an agri-food journalist, will debate how to combat the misinformation affecting the sector. The moderation will be in charge of Juan Pascual, vice-president of Elanco Animal Health for France, Iberia and Italy.
An approach to dismantle myths
The main objective of this conference is to dismantle myths surrounding livestock farming from a scientific perspective, as well as to reflect on the communication strategies necessary to deal with misinformation and bring the reality of the livestock sector closer to society.
The conference will conclude at 1:15 p.m. with the institutional closing.
