What activities will Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy 2025, be the focus of?

The designation of Catalonia as World Region of Gastronomy 2025 is “a great opportunity” that must be seized and, for this reason, the Government of Catalonia is “fully committed” to an “unprecedented” programme that will include 50 activities throughout Catalonia and internationally.

In December 2024, the main activities that will be carried out during this year 2025 were presented. Anafric  has joined the project of Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy 2025. This collaboration seeks to highlight the rich meat tradition of the region and to promote the sector through activities and events that promote Catalan gastronomic excellence.

What does this designation represent?

The programme has an initial budget of 15 million euros, with the aim of positioning Catalonia as a major world reference in food and wine tourism.

Among the actions that will be promoted is the launch of a Food Education Programme with the aim of promoting Catalan cuisine and the Mediterranean diet as drivers of quality and health in schools. Catalan cooking workshops are planned, led by students of higher training cycles in cooking and aimed at ESO students in a pilot test of 12 schools.

Catalonia will have a first-class fiction series in which its culinary and landscape wealth will be highlighted. It will be a 3Cat production that will be recorded in 2025 and will be released in 2026 on 3Cat and other international channels and platforms.

The 12 months, 12 gastronomic landscapes project will be promoted to show the territorial diversity that exists in Catalonia through its culinary wealth throughout the year.

On the other hand, with the action The heroes of the pantry, the aim is to encourage collaboration between professional organisations to promote and value Catalan gastronomy foods such as olive oil, milk, wine, meat or fruit, among others.

World Region Gastronomy
The Catalan Food programme will implement international promotion activities for Catalan products throughout the year and will include showcookings, tastings, promotions at points of sale and gastronomic experiences in different strategic markets.

September will focus on a large part of the external promotion activities. Additionally, different presentations will be made in the Spanish State to promote Catalonia as a gastronomic destination and Catalan cuisine as an identifying and differentiating feature of the territory.

During 2025, a professional support programme will be implemented for agri-food farms to increase the professionalisation and improve the competitiveness of farms that open or want to open to the public.

This programme aims to be a tool to promote and support agri-food farms that participate or wish to participate in the Welcome to Pagès (BaP) initiative, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2025.
