Women driving change in the agri-food sector

The Interprofessional Agri-Food Organization of White Coat Pork (INTERPORC) held in Zaragoza a conference aimed at highlighting the role of women in the agri-food sector, emphasizing their contribution to sustainability, innovation and productivity.

The event, titled “Women Driving Change”, brought together leading professionals from the business, scientific and academic fields, with the support of the Government of Aragon and in collaboration with YO DONA.

The opening address was given by Aitziber Lanza, Director General of Food Quality and Safety of the Government of Aragon, who emphasized the importance of promoting policies that foster equal opportunities and female leadership throughout the agri-food chain.

A round table discussion followed, moderated by Cristina Aldaz, Deputy Director of YO DONA, addressing the main challenges and opportunities for women’s participation in the agri-food industry, their role in innovation, and their contribution to sustainable development.

Speakers included:

  • Mercedes Sebastián Lafuente, Head of Production and Animal Health at Grupo Jorge.

  • Leonor Sáiz Amorós, Corporate Director of Institutional and External Relations at Familia Martínez and Chair of the Communication Committee of ANICE.

  • Elisa Pérez Ramírez, Researcher at the Animal Health Research Center (CISA-INIA, CSIC).

  • Isabel Rodríguez Hurtado, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio.

During the discussion, participants agreed that the integration of women at all levels of the agri-food sector is key to strengthening its competitiveness and sustainability, while contributing new leadership perspectives based on innovation, training and inclusion.

The session was closed by Manuel García Lorenzo, President of INTERPORC, who reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to equality and diversity as fundamental pillars of a modern and responsible livestock industry.
