ANAFRIC attends Minister Óscar Ordeig’s appearance on contagious nodular dermatosis

ANAFRIC was present at the appearance of the Honorable Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, Óscar Ordeig, along with Cristina Massot i Berna, Secretary General of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, and Rosa Altisent, Director General of Agriculture and Livestock, before the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Parliament of Catalonia.

During the session, the Department reported on the current situation of contagious nodular dermatosis and the contingency and compensation measures implemented to curb its spread and support affected livestock farmers.

The Minister emphasized that the situation is serious, but that human health is not at risk. He also emphasized that the detection system is functioning correctly and that priority is being given to containing outbreaks and accelerating vaccination, following strictly scientific criteria and in constant coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and the European Union.

Among the new developments announced, Catalonia has submitted a new vaccination plan to the EU, currently in the approval phase, and already has 310,000 doses available, with a vaccination rate of 7,500 animals per day.

Furthermore, the Minister requested a review and expansion of biosecurity policies on farms and announced that, although compensation scales have not yet been established, advance aid to livestock farmers is expected, with an initial allocation of 4 million euros.

Finally, Ordeig reiterated the Catalan Government’s commitment to the livestock sector and agricultural professionals, thanking them for their collaboration in surveillance and prevention efforts.
