The president of ANAFRIC, a meat industry association, José Friguls, has held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Begoña García Bernal, to analyse the current situation of the meat sector in Spain as well as the main challenges for the future.
During the meeting, ANAFRIC put on the table various priority issues to ensure the sustainability of the sector, such as the need to improve traceability in the field of sheep identification, the promotion of exports and support for the internationalisation of the sector, crucial for the competitiveness of the Spanish meat industry in the global market.
In addition, other issues were discussed that directly impact the viability of the sector, such as generational change and the application of new regulations, such as the modification of the regulation on animal welfare in transport.
Finally, ANAFRIC requested greater support for small and medium-sized companies in the livestock sector, both in terms of aid and in reducing the bureaucratic burden, a measure that would allow companies to focus on their growth and on improving their production processes.
With this meeting, ANAFRIC has placed itself at the full disposal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and continues its work of representing and defending the interests of the Spanish meat sector, ensuring its future and its relevance in the country’s economy.
