Catalonia allocates 10 million euros to promote the generational transfer of agriculture and livestock

The Generalitat de Catalunya has activated an aid line endowed with 10 million euros to favor generational succession in the agricultural and livestock sector and guarantee the continuity of family farms.

The initiative seeks to facilitate the incorporation of young farmers and ranchers in a context marked by the aging of the sector and the lack of succession in many farms.

The call, promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, is part of the “Red Carpet” project, aimed at simplifying and facilitating the access of new generations to the primary sector.

The program includes two complementary support lines. On the one hand, grants of up to 55,000 euros for owners who transfer their farm to young people between 18 and 45 years of age without direct family ties. On the other hand, a specific line for the transmission of knowledge, with grants of up to 800 euros per month for a maximum of 12 months to accompany the process of mentoring and practical learning.

The objective is to avoid the abandonment of viable farms, preserve the productive fabric and maintain economic and social activity in rural areas.

From ANAFRIC, we positively value this type of initiative aimed at guaranteeing the generational transition in the agro-livestock sector, a key challenge to ensure the future of food production, the sustainability of the territory and the competitiveness of the meat sector.
