The Catalan government has announced a new allocation of €25 million to strengthen livestock manure management and accelerate the implementation of biogas plants in Catalonia over the next four years.
The announcement, made by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Òscar Ordeig, reinforces the government’s commitment to a more sustainable and efficient livestock model aligned with decarbonization and circular economy goals.

With this new funding, Catalonia reaches a total of €46 million linked to the first call for proposals, aimed at both biogas plant installation projects and the treatment of digestate generated in these facilities.
The objective of this investment is twofold: firstly, to boost the production of renewable energy from livestock byproducts and, secondly, to improve the territorial management of manure, reducing emissions from farms and facilitating the production of high-quality fertilizers.
The call for proposals also prioritizes projects linked to local resources, in order to reduce dependence on long-distance transport and promote a more balanced and sustainable development of the Catalan livestock sector.
ANAFRIC welcomes these types of initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and innovative solutions that will allow progress towards a more efficient meat industry, committed to the environment and prepared to face the energy and climate challenges of the coming years.
