Luis Planas, the new Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has already held his first meeting of the department’s steering committee in which the main work objectives for the new legislature have been discussed.
The national food strategy – announced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in the investiture speech -, the development of the Family Agriculture Law and the promotion of organic and regenerative agriculture, among others, will be the main axes of action to modernize the agricultural and fishing sector, in addition to improving its profitability and sustainability.
The modernization of irrigation will be one of the preferred lines of action, while in fishing it is planned to advance in the decarbonization and renewal of the fleet. In both areas, digitalization and innovation and generational change are “essential strategic instruments to advance the transformation of two of the main productive sectors of the Spanish economy,” MAPA noted in its statement.
