EU target: Labeling for happy animals

The countries of the European Union have supported the project to establish a labeling that identifies the food that comes from animals that have been treated with welfare standards, thus responding to the growing demand for these products. The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, has indicated that Spain supports these conclusions that “go in the sense of rewarding and giving the possibility of additional income to farmers who, from the point of view of animal welfare, carry out better practices.”

Animal welfare is one of the priorities of the European Farm to Table strategy. The EU will start to prepare the criteria for creating a European logo and will also have to foresee the gradual inclusion of all livestock species and cover all stages of the animal’s life, including transport and slaughter.
