Grupo Costa, integrates La Alegría Riojana to consolidate in the market of cured products

Alegría Riojana, specialized in the production of high quality sausages and marinades, has recently been acquired by Grupo Costa with the aim of increasing its presence in the market of processed and complementing its portfolio with a niche of value such as natural chorizo and traditional.

La Alegría Riojana, which in 2020 had a turnover of 19 million euros, has a production plant in Camprovín (La Rioja), in the Sierra de Moncalvillo, a privileged position for the natural drying of products thanks to the climate and its 673 meters above sea level, which give a characteristic flavor to the brand’s sausages.

This brand is very well positioned in the European and Latin American markets and complements perfectly with the current Costa Food Group in the segment of processed

Jorge Costa, CEO of the group, explains that the Riojan company has joined the holding company Costa Food Group, the only national meat fully integrated currently in pork, chicken and turkey, to strengthen the commitment to reach the final consumer, also in international markets: “ La Alegría Riojana increases our current offer of products derived from Iberian pork and white pork with its wide range in the range of sausages, loins and cured hams. This brand is very well positioned in the European and Latin American markets and complements perfectly with the current Costa Food Group in the processed segment.

The current management team and the 47 employees of La Alegría Riojana thus join the staff of Grupo Costa, which is consolidated as one of the largest meat groups in Spain, made up of more than 4,700 people and an aggregate turnover of 1.5 billion euros in 2020. In 2018 it became the first white pork meat in Spain to obtain the Welfair ™ Animal Welfare certification from AENOR in all its more than 850 farms throughout its production process: from the raising and processing of the pig until obtaining its elaborated meats.
