The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, has met with Manuel García and Alberto Herranz, president and general director respectively of INTERPORC (Interprofessional Agri-Food and Pigs of White Layer). The meeting, in which companies from the sector have also participated, took place at the Interprofessional stand at the Barcelona Alimentaria fair.
Aragonès has been very interested in the evolution of the pork sector in Catalonia, since it is one of the most important in the economy of this autonomous community both in turnover and in job creation.
In this sense, Manuel García has highlighted the relevance of Catalonia for the Spanish pork sector since, without a doubt, “it is one of the reference regions, not in vain it occupies first place both in the ranking of production volume and in the of exports”.
Figures in Catalonia
For his part, Alberto Herranz has presented to Aragonès the figures achieved by Catalonia in 2023, a year in which “the production of Catalan pork companies totaled 1.9 million tons, 40.13% of the national total; of which 72.9% were exported, that is, 1.4 million tons.” In total, Catalan exports of meat and processed pork products account for 51.5% of the national total.
