‘Pastoreo’ returns to Madrid to bring lamb to the city in a cultural key

It has already become a classic event in Madrid. With the arrival of the December long weekend and the official opening of Christmas, Pastoreo returns to Madrid for the fourth consecutive year, the pop-up created by INTEROVIC, the Interprofessional Association of Sheep and Goat Meat of Spain, which aims to promote knowledge and consumption of suckling lamb, lamb and goat meat of national origin and which is part of the campaign Closer is better. After the success of its first three editions, this event is presented as a free leisure plan open to all audiences that can be enjoyed on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 December at Calle Sandoval, 3. On those days, this space is filled with flowers, rural culture and lots of countryside.

Pastoreo en Navidad

“Pastoreo is a unique initiative that highlights the work of shepherds and their essential contribution to sustainability, care for the environment and our gastronomic tradition. This is an event that offers the public the opportunity to learn more about this livestock industry, its history, culture, native breeds and products,” explains Tomás Rodríguez, director of INTEROVIC.

Thus, during the two days that Pastoreo will last, there will be a multitude of cultural activities, exhibitions, workshops and tastings designed for the whole family to enjoy. Entry to the pop-up will be free and includes the tasting, in the Pastoreo canteen, of one of the tapas that the chef Carlos Moreno, from Café Comercial, will prepare on this occasion. One of them will be the Best Paquito of Madrid 2023, the other a tonnato lamb, also accompanied by a drink. In addition, visitors will be able to visit the exhibition by the photographer José Barea, who is returning for another year with a different selection of his portraits of sheep and goats of native breeds of transhumance that are part of his work Bestiarium.

The Mapa de Lanas project is also on display, a wool tapestry handmade by Hilandia. As an added bonus, visitors will be able to see traditional wool spinning live every morning at 12:30 and in the afternoon at 18:00.

For the workshops and masterclasses, it will be necessary to book in advance on the website www.pastoreoenmadrid.es, where you can also check the programme and times of all the activities. On Friday afternoon there will be a workshop to create wool Christmas balls thanks to La Real Lana, designers of unique pieces made with wool, on Saturday morning there will be a Christmas cookie decorating workshop with María Mirabelli, a baking expert, and in the afternoon there will be a masterclass given by Clara P. Villalón to learn how to cook lamb in an airfryer. All workshops will cost 20 euros.

As a novelty, in this fourth edition, the public will be able to take home The Lamb Recipe Book, a compendium of different preparations with this ideal ingredient to put into practice recipes of all levels and styles at home following simple steps, whose prologue this year is signed by the chef Alberto Chicote.

And, finally, Hilandia will launch a raffle for a handmade wool blanket whose proceeds will go to the victims of the catastrophe caused by the DANA in Valencia.
