Planas says EU decision to impose tariffs on US is “a step in the right direction”

The European Union will impose tariffs worth $ 4 billion (3.3 billion euros) on Tuesday on imports of a series of products from the United States as compensation for subsidies granted by Washington to the aerospace company Boeing, declared contrary to the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has stated that the European Union’s decision to impose tariffs on products from the United States represents “a step in the right direction.” On his Twitter account, Planas has expressed his desire that “the unfair tariffs that penalize agri-food exports of Spanish products to the United States can be ended soon.”

Planas has expressed during these months that tariffs are being in force that “the agri-food sector has been immersed in a trade conflict outside its activity” and that “it is a strategic mistake to include food in trade retaliation.”
