The INTERPORC ‘Certified Welfare Commitment’ seal, aligned with the recommendations of the EU Animal Welfare Platform

The ‘Certified Welfare Commitment’ seal, promoted by the Interprofessional of the White-Layered Swine (INTERPORC), is fully aligned with the recommendations of the Animal Welfare Platform of the European Union, which has underlined the importance of promoting this type of stamps voluntarily and according to the characteristics of each production to give a new impulse to animal welfare policies. The EU Animal Welfare Platform has been promoted by the European Commission itself and is made up of 75 representatives of the livestock sector, NGOs, scientists, Member States, countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), international organizations and the European Food Safety Authority.

It should be noted that to obtain the seal it is necessary to meet the requirements of the Interporc Animal Welfare Spain (IAWS) Regulation, which includes those established in community and national regulations, as well as other scientific criteria that are more demanding in matters related to health. and animal health, biosecurity, animal housing, food safety, traceability and the environment. Likewise, it contemplates 3 production systems, so that it better represents the reality of the different productions and allows the consumer to choose between different animal welfare options.

The seal emerged in 2019 as a voluntary initiative of the Spanish pig sector and was created by the main production and industrial companies together with a Scientific Committee of high-level experts in animal welfare

‘Certified Welfare Commitment’ guarantees the consumer complete traceability from field to table -From Farm to Fork- and is certified by independent entities in all productive phases -from reproduction, weaning or transition and fattening or fattening, to the slaughterhouse and the meat industry-, so that only after auditing all the phases is it possible to grant the seal.

The seal emerged in 2019 as a voluntary initiative of the Spanish pig sector and was created by the main production and industrial companies together with a Scientific Committee of high-level experts in animal welfare. In addition, it was agreed with certification, administration, veterinary and distribution entities, and tested and validated by organizations for the protection and defense of animals.
