Spain is once again free of sheeppox

Spain once again achieves the status of a country free of sheep and goat pox after a year in which this livestock sector saw this disease reappear, with a first outbreak on September 19, 2022.

This new status means that Esaña reopens the doors to international trade of about twenty countries that closed their purchases, so the sector, represented through the interprofessional organization for sheep and goat meat (Interovic), values the work carried out. to control the disease.

Tomás Rodríguez, president of Interovic, pointed out that it was a “complex” pathology but “we have seen that the alert and control system has worked thanks to the coordination of the administrations and the work of the sector.”
