PROVACUNO is present at the 50th Edition of the FOODEX Japan Fair, which is being held until today, March 14, at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center (Tokyo Big Sight). With an area that exceeds 85,000 square meters, FOODEX Japan is the most important food fair of those held in this country, and a center of attraction for agents of the commercial chain from all over Asia. In its last edition, which took place last year and in which PROVACUNO was also present, more than 3,000 commercial brands from more than 70 countries were presented. Throughout its history, the fair has gathered more than 80,000 exhibitors and more than 4 million visitors.

Since the opening of its market in 2020, Japan has become one of the main destinations for our meat in third countries. The Japanese consumer demands premium meat, tender, juicy, with a delicate flavor and low fat content, ideal for a healthy diet, very fashionable in Japanese society.

Javier López, director of PROVACUNO, points out that in 2024, a record figure of close to 2,000 tons was exported from Spain, with a preference for meats and cuts of the highest quality. “This is a country that imports volumes close to a million tons a year and its main suppliers are countries that produce high quality meat, as is our case. Currently, Spain has more than 50 establishments authorized to export to Japan”, he concludes.

In recent years, the consumption of beef in Japan has grown to reach 7.5 kg of meat per inhabitant per year. In addition, the Japanese interest in European/Western habits and culture and the rise of healthy diets favor the consumption of low-fat foods.

Spain has become the third largest exporter of beef in the European Union to Japan and the tenth worldwide exporter, accounting for 7% of Japanese imports from the EU.
