On 28 January, the Sustainable Livestock Intergroup of the European Parliament will hold a new meeting in Brussels focusing on the strategic role of livestock farming in sustainability, food security and the competitiveness of the European agri-food system.
The Intergroup has become a key forum for dialogue between policymakers, the productive sector and experts, aiming to promote European policies based on scientific evidence and grounded in the realities of the livestock and meat sector, as well as its essential contribution to the economy and rural areas.

Sustainable livestock, competitiveness and science-based policies
The meeting will address some of the main challenges currently facing the European livestock and meat sector, including the transition towards more sustainable production models, emissions reduction, technological innovation, production efficiency and the need to ensure the economic viability of farms.
The Sustainable Livestock Intergroup advocates for a vision in which European livestock farming is part of the solution to climate and food challenges, provided that political decisions are taken through a pragmatic, realistic and data-driven approach, taking into account the diversity of production systems across the European Union.
A strategic forum for the livestock and meat sector
In a context marked by increasing regulatory pressure, international competition and social debate around animal production, initiatives such as this meeting are particularly relevant to ensure that the sector’s voice is heard at European level.
The event in Brussels highlights the importance of maintaining stable channels of dialogue with EU institutions, enabling the sector to convey its reality, its progress in sustainability and its contribution to food security, rural development and the overall competitiveness of the European Union.
