World Leather Day will be celebrated on April 29, 2026. This international initiative aims to highlight the value of leather as a sustainable, durable, and high-quality material, as well as emphasize the importance of the leather industry within the circular economy.

As reported by Leather Cluster Barcelona, this global campaign is now in its fifth year, with the goal of raising awareness about the benefits of this material and promoting a more rigorous and well-founded understanding of its role within the industry.
As part of this celebration, Leather Cluster Barcelona will organize a technical conference under the theme “Leather in Transition: Challenges, Regulation & Circular Solutions,” which will analyze the main challenges facing the leather sector in Europe.
The meeting will focus particularly on the impact of the new European regulatory framework, including initiatives such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Digital Product Passport (DPP), and the Green Claims Directive, as well as the traceability and sustainability requirements affecting the industry.
In addition, the day will include presentations and discussion panels on key issues such as:
- Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)
- Material traceability
- The circular economy and the valorization of by-products
- New, more efficient tanning and finishing technologies
The objective of this meeting is to reflect on the present and future of the sector, reinforcing leather’s position as a circular, responsible, and competitive material within the new European industrial context.
World Leather Day, promoted by the organization Leather Naturally and first held in 2022, has become an established international initiative that brings together associations and entities in the sector to highlight the value of leather and its contribution to industrial sustainability.
